I’ve had people suggest that I wear darkened eyeglasses — because my gaze is too intense. It’s true — I’m intensely passionate about my purpose in life. And, I thoroughly enjoy that far left lane, designated Speed of Belief.
Remember, when we were first learning to drive, how we had to keep staring at all the gauges to make sure our speed was right, the engine had oil pressure, and the coolant was staying cool. Now, we seldom think about it — we glance, every now and then.
Same song, second verse: I’m operating at the Speed of Belief — not by sight but by feel. Because of the “Curse of Knowledge,” I assume (yes, I know, makes an ass out of u and me) everyone else is comfortable with their hair blown back, too. (As a side-bar, that’s why I wear my hair in a crew cut.)
Go Fast Beliefs
In serving the public for 35+ years as a CPA and wanting all of us to Build Dynamic Futures, I’ve come to realize people can (conceive) dream about what they intend to do (achieve). Yet, many fail to believe.
Whatever the mind can Conceive AND Believe, it can Achieve.
Belief is unique to each individual. Although there are days I “wish” for a Magic Wand, it is not my right or responsibility to impose my beliefs on others. Yet, I’ve worked hard to accumulate my set — as have you.
As I examine how I developed my worldview, these beliefs are at the core:
- Attitude of Want To
- Boundaries Clearly Defined
- Commitment to Go All In
- Seeds of Opportunity
- Purpose of Direction
- Plan to Build Something Special
- People Are My Main Aim (MMA)
From the definition of believe: “Believe comes from old German words meaning to have trust. Belief doesn’t require proof, just acceptance. To believe can also mean having confidence.”
Mixed Martial Arts
Daily, there is an ongoing war between that little Angel on one shoulder and that little Devil on the other. I’ve read the Book. So, I know how the movie ends. Yet, on a daily basis, the struggle is very intense to fulfill My Main Aim.
How about you?
What’s your main aim?
With guys, I often tease, “Is it wine, women, and song?”
With gals, I’m more careful with the questions. For those who are some combination of tough and tender, I might gently ask, “Are you bragging or complaining?”
All we do begins with a thought.
Prior to Socrates was a fellow known as Heraclitus. These are his words.
The soul is dyed the color of its thoughts. Think only on those things that are in line with your principles and can bear the light of day. The content of your character is your choice. Day by day, what you do is who you become. Your integrity is your destiny – it is the light that guides your way.
In other words, each of us are the Captain of our own destiny.
Driving Miss Daisy
Slow down to go fast.
That’s the contradiction within the Speed of Belief. We must go slow as we develop our beliefs — slow to say yes and fast to accept new information to challenge bad beliefs. Then, we can use that confidence to go fast, very fast.
My hope is that each of you will examine your worldview — to discover the influences and to verify your core beliefs.
Then, move on over to the far left lane — you’ll find me there, too!
Achieve at the Speed of Belief
